Why is it so important to load the washing machine right?

The amount of water and the amount of detergent are designed for a correct load size. Too low of loadings can result in the detergent being overdosed. This leads to detergent residues, gray wash and skin irritation.

Overcharging is bad for the machine because the ball bearings etc. are not designed for it and will be worn early.

More tips on how to do laundry right is summarized in our laundry fibula.

Do you need special detergent for colored fabrics?

Coloured fabrics differ from heavy-duty detergents especially by the low content of bleach. In addition, color detergent does not include any brighteners as they can lead to color changes. So that the laundry's colors remain rich and vivid, most colored fabrics have additives, so-called color care agents and dye transfer inhibitors.

If you permanently use colored fabrics for white washing, they will degray by the lack of bleaching agents and optical brighteners.

How come my laundry is grey and hard?

Gray, scratchy laundry indicates calcium deposits. You can avoid calcium deposits when you dose the detergent correctly and also use a softener such havonCALC in case you have hard water.

To avoid detergent residue, you dose the detergent exactly as prescribed and load the machine correctly. A capped back of the hand should fit between the inner wall of the drum and the laundry. Also, have the manufacturer of your washing machine check the level of water and increase it if necessary.

You have to decalcify so that your gray, hard laundry will become white again:  Place your laundry in a ten-percent ecosol DESCALER solution (100 milliliters ecosol DESCALER and 900 milliliters of water) for at least two hours. Alternatively, you can descale directly inside the washing machine: A 4-5 kilogram machine needs a liter of ecosol DESCALER. Wash your laundry at 60 degrees Celsius. You not only descale your laundry, but also the washing machine and heating elements.

Depending on the degree of soiling and water hardness, please enter the suggested dosage to avoid encrusted, gray, dirty laundry or damage to the washing machine from lime dpositis. To find out about your water hardness, consult the local water company.

What do fabric softeners do and how environmentally friendly are they?
